"She Persisted" Influential Women in history

A set of 50 flashcards featuring some of the most powerful and influential women in human history is desperately needed in the #MeToo era, in the classroom and at home.

[Nashville, Tennessee, March, 01, 2019] - Making education accessible is a major challenge. At a time that budgets are being cut, distractions abound, and time is more in demand than ever, creator and artist Yoni Limor wanted to build a new tool to make teaching and learning history fun and engaging.

We all know the challenges that children and educators face, both in school and at home. To that end, Yoni and Pencil Ink Academy are extremely excited to announce Pencil Ink Academy's second project: "She Persisted" A new deck of educational flashcards spotlighting some of the most powerful women in history.

Organization Summary: Pencil Ink Academy was founded to help foster and nurture future generations, and to help create a society where knowledge is revered, not ridiculed. Yoni Limor, founder of Pencil Ink Academy, is the father to a 3 year old son and a 6 month old daughter. He has recently been contemplating the future educational and political environment his children will live in as they grow up. “I want my son to grow up knowing that he is surrounded by strong, educated, empowered women who deserve every right that he is afforded.” Yoni said, “I want my daughter to grow up never measuring herself by what she is not, but by what she IS. To celebrate her strengths, not focus on perceived shortcomings.”

Featuring FIFTY of the most influential women throughout world history, “She Persisted” is a vigorously considered project. To bring these women's portraits to life, Pencil Ink Academy has partnered with ten of the most talented female artists in comics and pop art, each bringing their own signature style to produce the flashcards’ unique designs:

Tressa Bowling, Susan Curry, Diana Greenhalgh (Marvel, IDW), Serena Guerra ("The Mice Templar", Image Comics), Jessica Hickman (Disney, Lucasfilm, Marvel), Beth Hughes (Nick Jr., McGraw-Hill Education), Emma Kubert ("Willowbrook", The Kubert School), Janet Lee (Eisner winner "Return of the Dapper Men"), Comfort Love ("The Uniques"), and Alex Monik.

Campaign Announcement: Pencil Ink Academy will be launching a Kickstarter campaign to make these cards a reality on March 1st, 2019 at 12:01am EST. The campaign will run through the entire month of March and is looking for support from educators, parents, and history minded citizens everywhere.

The campaign can be found here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/yonilimor/she-persisted-influential-women-in-history

The Process and Research: When you look at the front side of a flashcard and think of the answer, you are engaging a mental faculty known as active recall. In other words, you are attempting to remember the concept from scratch rather than simply staring at the passage in your textbook or recognizing it on a multiple choice quiz. Active recall has been proven to create stronger neuron connections for that memory trace. And because flashcards can so easily facilitate repetition, they are the best way to create multiple memory-enhancing recall events.

During our research and development phase, we went to great lengths to assure that these cards were both artistically and educationally engaging. They aren’t just fun to look at, these cards contain systems by which to learn and do more than memorize some presidential trivia.

People can sign up to stay in the know about launch info, backer rewards, and get sneak peeks of the deck and cards on our Instagram and Facebook pages @PencilinkAcademy

Together, backers and Pencil Ink Academy can help spotlight the powerful women in our history and our lives and create an atmosphere of encouragement in which our kids can learn in new and exciting ways.
